London Broncos coach says club should be treated 'differently' as he makes case for IMG exemption

London Broncos coach Danny Ward believes the club should be treated "differently" from other Super League clubs and be exempt from the overseas quota.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has said there will be no exemptions to the quota, which limits the number of overseas players each club can have in their squad.

But Ward argues that the Broncos are a unique case as they are the only club in Super League based outside of the UK.

"We're an international club," Ward said. "We're not just a club from the north of England or the south of England. We're a club that represents London and the whole of the UK.

"We have a lot of players from all over the world and we need to be able to field the best possible team we can. The quota is holding us back."

The RFL has said that it is committed to developing homegrown players and that the quota is necessary to ensure that there are opportunities for British players to play at the highest level.

But Ward believes that the Broncos should be treated as a special case.

"We're not taking away opportunities from British players," he said. "We're actually giving them opportunities to play alongside some of the best players in the world.

"We're a unique club and we should be treated differently."

The Broncos are currently bottom of the Super League table and have won just one of their first six games.

Ward believes that the quota is making it difficult for the Broncos to compete with the other clubs in the league.

"We're at a disadvantage," he said. "We can't sign the players we need to sign to be competitive.

"The quota is holding us back and it's unfair."

The RFL has said that it will review the quota at the end of the season.

But Ward believes that the Broncos should be exempt from the quota now.

"We need to be treated differently," he said. "We're a unique club and we need to be given the opportunity to succeed."
