Roberto De Zerbi: Former Player and Current Manager

From the Pitch to the Sidelines

Roberto De Zerbi has made a name for himself in the world of football, both as a player and as a coach. Born in Italy on June 6, 1979, he began his career in the youth ranks of his hometown club, AC Milan.

De Zerbi went on to play professionally for several clubs in Italy and abroad, but it was during his time at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine that he achieved his greatest success as a player. With the Ukrainian giants, he won two league titles and a cup.

Transition to Management

After retiring from playing, De Zerbi turned his attention to management. He started his coaching career at the youth level before taking over as manager of Foggia in 2018. He led Foggia to promotion to Serie B before moving to Sassuolo in 2019.

Under De Zerbi's guidance, Sassuolo became a force to be reckoned with in Serie A. The team played an attacking and entertaining brand of football, and it regularly finished in the top half of the table. De Zerbi's success at Sassuolo earned him a move to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League in 2022.

International Ambitions

De Zerbi has also had success on the international stage. He led the Italian U-21 team to victory at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. This success has led to speculation that he may one day take over as manager of the Italian national team.

De Zerbi is a highly-rated manager who has already achieved great success in a relatively short space of time. He is one of the most sought-after managers in Europe, and it will be interesting to see where his career takes him in the future.
